MCST proposes to prioritize COVID-19 vaccination for 200 athletes

PSNews - According to Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thien, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, this would give them peace of mind when competing abroad trying to earn tickets to 2021 Tokyo Olympics, set to begin July 23 regardless of the COVID-19 outbreak.

Recently, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the National Olympic Committee sent an official letter to the Prime Minister, the National Steering Committee for Covid-19 pandemic prevention and control to approve for prioritizing vaccination for the teams' members..

As reported, around 200 athletes from teams of shooting, judo, wrestling, gymnastics, athletics, taekwondo, archery, karate, boxing, fencing, weightlifting, badminton, rowing and canoeing were named in the list. They will represent Vietnam in key international tournaments and Olympic qualifiers in the upcoming time.

According to Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thien, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, this would give them peace of mind when competing abroad trying to earn tickets to 2021 Tokyo Olympics, set to begin July 23 regardless of the COVID-19 outbreak.

The proposal of Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thien did not include members of the Vietnamese football team.  However, Vietnam Football Federation is considering sending its own request regarding vaccination for national football teams. Coach Park Hang-seo and local players will go to either the United Arab Emirates or Thailand to complete their remaining World Cup 2022 Asian qualifiers.
