The Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management under the Ministry of Health (MoH) on March 31 requested Central Mental Hospital No1 to report on an illicit drug abuse case involving patients at the hospital.
A large amount of drug seized in the case.

Earlier, the police of Hanoi detected a major drug trafficking case involving patients being treated at Central Mental Hospital No1.

Earlier in January 2021, the police found out about a major drug trafficking ring, run by Nguyen Xuan Quy, 38, a patient at the hospital.

Quy was hospitalized in November 2018 to treat his mental illness. Quy then corrupted some medical workers at the hospital to provide him with a large private accommodation.

Quy rebuilt a room and equipped it with a set of loudspeakers and lighting system, turning it into a “recreation center” for him and his friends, including several hospital workers, to use illicit drugs.

The police arrested Quy and 5 others on March 20, 2021.

Dr. Luong Ngoc Khue, Director of the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management, on March 31 said the MoH had asked the hospital to report on the incident.

The police are further investigating the case to identify the responsibility of individuals and organization involved in the case.
