Mau Son and Phia Oac mountains covered with frost as temperatures drop

PSNews –Northern provinces have experienced the 3rd day of the new cold spell during New Year period. The temperature on the Phia Oac mountain peak, Binh Nguyen District, Cao Bang Province, dropped to nearly 0 °C with some frost. 

Over the past 2 days, most of the Northern provinces have been affected by the strongest cold spell since the beginning of this year’s winter. 

The temperature recorded on December 30 in Sin Ho District (Lai Chau Province) and Bac Ha District (Lao Cai Province) was 6.8 °C, in Moc Chau District (Son La Province) was 5.8°C, in Tam Dao Town (Vinh Phuc Province) was 3.3°C and in Sapa Town (Lao Cai Province) was 3°C.

On December 30, the cold spell was intensified in some mountainous provinces, especially in Lang Son and Cao Bang. Located at an altitude of over 1,500 m above the sea level, the Mau Son mountain peak started to see ice on the trees as the temperature dropped to minus 2°C.

Frost also appeared at the Phia Oac Mountain peak of Nguyen Binh District, Cao Bang Province as the temperature dropped to below 0°C. This is the first time frost has appeared in Phia Oac this year.

The frozen phenomenon has attracted a lot of tourists who wanted to experience snow and ice on the Phia Oac peak.

According to the weather forecasts, the lowest temperature in the Northern Delta region will drop to 9 to 12°C while the temperature in the mountainous areas will drop to below 3°C with a high risk of frost and hoarfrost.

As the harsh weather might continue, the local authorities recommended local farmers to provide further protection for their plants and animals.
