Ministry of Health strengthens border quarantine to prevent H5N6

PSNews - Shortly after H5N6 outbreak is detected in Thua Thien Thue, on April 11th, the Ministry of Heath required Heath Departments of all provinces and cities to strengthen border health quarantine. 

The Ministry of Health asked provincial Heath Departments to coordinate with relevant units to closely monitor tourist entries into Vietnam through border gates and pay additional attention to the people coming from H7N9 and other avian viruses areas; offer immediate medical treatment for suspected cases; advise provincial People's Committees to conduct inter-sectorial avian flu prevention training.

The Ministry also asked local authorities, especially of provinces risking bird flu, and provinces bordering China and Cambodia to popularize information and guide on using poultry with safe origin and food safety; closely monitor the situation to response promptly to disease outbreaks..

The Ministry of Health also gave several necessary guides to prevent influenza H5N1 and H7N9, including washing hands with soaps, avoiding eating poultry with unclear origin and ensuring food safety. People when detecting sick and dead poultry must report immediately to local authorities and veterinary units in the area.

Earlier, on April 10th, H5N6 flu virus had been detected in two duck flocks raised by farmer Truong Thanh Truong (residing in Loc Hoa commune, Phu Loc district) and farmer Dang Huong (residing at Loc An commune, Phu Loc district). After receiving the positive influenza A/H5N6 virus test results , Thua Thien Hua Province Department of Animal and Veterinary organized a destruction of thousands of ducks.
