More than 1.64 million new jobs created in 2016

More than 1.641 million people got new jobs in the country and abroad in 2016, Deputy Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs Dao Hong Lan said at a recent conference in Hanoi.

Ms Lan said this is the third consecutive year Vietnam has sent more than 100,000 workers abroad. Besides, more than 1.974 million others received vocational training, bringing the number of trained workers to 53%. The unemployment rate was 2.3%.

According to reports from 63 provinces and cities, 70% of businesses had bonus plans for workers on the occasion of New Year 2017 with an average level of VND1.253 million each, up 6.2% compared to last year. The highest cash bonus awarded by a foreign direct investment (FDI) business in HCM City is VND1 billion while the lowest is only VND30,000.

To welcome the Lunar New Year, 83.5% of businesses have planned to offer a worker one month’s salary (around VND4.9 million). The highest cash bonus awarded to a worker by a private business in HCM City is VND1 billion while the lowest is VND50,000.
