More than 24,000 people vaccinated against COVID-19 in Vietnam

As many as 20,054 people have been vaccinated against the coronavirus in 12 cities and provinces across Vietnam since the national COVID-19 vaccination campaign was launched on March 8, according to the National Expanded Immunization Programme.

More than 3,000 people got their first coronavirus jab on March 17 alone, reported the programme.

Hai Duong, the epicenter of the country’s latest coronavirus outbreak, recorded the highest number of vaccinated people, 12,068. It was followed by Hanoi capital (3,768), Hung Yen (2,492),  Bac Giang (2,281) and Bac Ninh (1,322).

Vaccine recipients are healthcare workers, and members of COVID-19 prevention community groups, and local steering boards on COVID-19 prevention and control.

Vietnam is using the AstraZeneca vaccine for the national immunization programme. Despite several mild side-effects, the Ministry of Health has decided to proceeds with the use of the vaccine.

Vietnam imported more than 117,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine in late February 2021. An additional 5.6 million doses of the same vaccine are expected to arrive in March and April.
