National flagpole inaugurated in Con Co island district
The construction of the 38.8 meter-tall flag pole was started on April 20, 2016, with a total investment of VND 3.56 billion mobilized from non-Sate sources. The flagpole is bigger than others built on Vietnamese islands.
The project has met the aspirations of generations of the armed forces and people working and living on the islands. The flagpole has marked the continuity of the 58-year history of Con Co island as the national flag first flew on the island on August 8, 1959.

The national flagpole will be a symbol for independence, freedom and peace, as well as a reaffirmation of the nation’s sacred sovereignty over the island.
At the inauguration ceremony, Chairman of the Quang Tri provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chinh announced the launch of a new tour to Con Co island district to boost Con Co as a top of a tourist triangle connecting the three destinations of Cua Tung, Cua Viet and Con Co.
"Officials, troops and people of the island district should try to call for investors while comprehensively developing the island's advantages in order to promote resorts and tourist services and promoting friendly and clean environment, and security and defense," said Chairman Chinh.
