PSNews – The Con Co island District (Quang Tri Province) Party Committee, People's Committee and Fatherland Front Committee on July 11th held a ceremony to inaugurate the island’s national flagpole.

The construction of the 38.8 meter-tall flag pole was started on April 20, 2016, with a total investment of VND 3.56 billion mobilized from non-Sate sources. The flagpole is bigger than others built on Vietnamese islands.

The project has met the aspirations of generations of the armed forces and people working and living on the islands. The flagpole has marked the continuity of the 58-year history of Con Co island as the national flag first flew on the island on August 8, 1959.

"Officials, troops and people of the island district should try to call for investors while comprehensively developing the island's advantages in order to promote resorts and tourist services and promoting friendly and clean environment, and security and defense," said Chairman Chinh.
