PSNews - Natural disasters cause more than 300 deaths and economic losses of 1.3 billion USD (equivalent to 1 to 1.5 percent of GDP) per year to the country, according to the General Department of Disaster Prevention and Control under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Climate change and natural disasters have become a global problem as they directly affect the lives of billions of people on Earth. The recent flooding largest-ever recorded in the past decades has been causing widespread consequences to Vietnam’s central and northern mountainous provinces, and severely affecting life and production of local people.
Thanks to supports of the international community, Vietnam has proactively implemented measures to cope with climate change and natural disasters. These include the improvement of the legal frameworks and policies on natural disaster prevention and control; synchronous implementation of various solutions in order to raise public awareness of natural disasters, effectively respond to and minimize damages caused by natural calamities.
The General Department of Natural Disaster Prevention and Control was established in 2017 to unify the State management and efforts to respond to natural disasters and climate change from the Central level to local.
