Over 150 doctors and medical staff volunteer to donate organs

PSNews - The National Coordination Center for Organ Transplantation coordinated with Hue Central Hospital to hold a ceremony to announce the establishment of the Center for Organ Transplantation of Hue Central Hospital and launch a movement of donating tissues and organs.

Dr. Pham Nhu Hiep, Director of Hue Central Hospital, said that the hospital performed the first kidney transplant in 2001. By August 2019, the hospital has carried out 800 kidney transplants, 4 heart transplants and one heart and lung combined transplant. In particular, the hospital has successfully performed 7 corneal transplants so far in 2019 alone.

Additionally, the hospital also coordinated with the National Coordination Centre for Organ Transplantation to perform various transplants across Vietnam and launched a movement calling on people to donate their organs after their brain deaths. However, it is estimated that up to 16,000 people with their heart, kidney, liver, and lung failures and more than 6,000 people with their corneal damage have been waiting for their organs and tissues to be replaced.
