Nearly 440,000 people in the Central Highlands province of Dak Nong have been covered by health insurance to date, representing 82% of the province’s population.

This proportion is 2% higher than the target set by the Vietnam Social Insurance under a plan to encourage all people to join the insurance programme through 2020.

Close to 330,000 locals from low-income families or ethnic minority groups received State financial support to buy health insurance cards.

More than 10,000 near-poor households got assistance from the State and the European Union.

Deputy Director of the provincial Social Insurance Vo Hung said Dak Nong is striving to have at least 90% of its population covered by health insurance by 2020.

The province is stepping up communication campaigns, improving quality of medical examination, and tightening procedures to grant health insurance cards.
