Police force destroyed illegal football betting ring, arresting famous businessman

PSNews –The Vietnamese police force on March 4 arrested six men in Hai Duong province for their alleged involvement in a large online football betting ring.

The six men, arrested by a squad of Special Task Force 113 in collaboration with the Police Department for High-Tech Crime Prevention, includes a successful entrepreneur in Hai Duong, named Vu Manh Cuong.

Other arrested were Ho Manh Thiep, 30, the leader of the ring, with his previous conviction of illegal possession of weapons; Vu Huy Dung, 34; Vu Viet Anh, 30; Nguyen Van Tuan, 38; and Doan Duc Tien, 27.

Earlier, in late 2016, reported by local sources on an illegal online football betting ring, headed by Ho Manh Thiep, a squad of Special Task Force 113 was founded to investigate the case.

The investigation team then detected the ring playing large-scale online gambles with a total amount of their gambling accounts in the last three months of hundreds of billions of Vietnamese dongs.

According to the investigation team, the suspects had divided their accounts into many sub-accounts. These sub-accounts then had been managed by the band’s members to look for gamblers and to run betting.

The investigation team also revealed that the band had tentacles across the country and operated the network in a secure manner.

The police are now expanding the case to invest other possible involved.
