Accordingly, the Department of Cybersecurity and Hi-tech Crime Prevention under the Ministry of Public Security on May 15 informed that the department was studying and certifying a report that personal data of Vietnamese citizens are being offered for sale on a website.
The case has been clarified as follows: On May 13, 17GB of personal data on Vietnamese people was posted by an account named Ox1337xO (the account has been deleted) on a hacker forum.
The data includes ID cards, addresses, phone numbers and emails of some 3,600 Vietnamese people. The hacker offered the data package for USD 9,000 and he/she wanted to be paid by cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin or Litecoin.
All the ID cards posted on the website are the old-style ones, not the new chip-based ID cards.
The Department of Cybersecurity and Hi-tech Crime Prevention said it is investigating the case.
