Also on June 7, the Criminal Science Institute under the Ministry of Public Security established a special team to reassess the machines used to treat the patients at the hospital on May 29.

In an effort to find out the cause of the case, the Criminal Science Institute said it will also preside over a consultation with the participation of Public Security forensic laboratory centers, military forensic laboratory centers, Bach Mai Hospital, Hanoi Kidney Hospital and experts.

Earlier, on May 31, a Hoa Binh Police working group in cooperation with the relevant units under the Ministry of Public Security worked with Thien Son Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company (Trung Yen 3 street, Cau Giay district, Hanoi city), which supplied the medical equipment to Hoa Binh General Hospital.

According to reports, Thien Son Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company was contracted by the hospital for maintenance and repair of equipment at the Ward of Nephrology of Hoa Binh General Hospital.

However, the company hired a company, located in Bac Ninh province, to carry out part of the work at the hospital one day before the abovementioned serious medical incident had happened.

On May 29, many kidney patients at Hoa Binh General Hospital showed signs of anaphylaxis. Later 8 of them died and 10 were taken to Bach Mai hospital in a critical condition. The case has been seen as “the most serious medical incident in recent years in Vietnam”.

Police have completed forensic examinations and returned the bodies of the dead to their families. They have also cordoned off the area and temporarily shut down the kidney department. More than 100 patients who were receiving similar treatment at the hospital were transferred to hospitals in Hanoi to continue their dialysis, the hospital said.

Health minister Nguyen Thi Kim Tien has promised on May 31 to quickly find out what caused the deaths of seven patients undergoing dialysis at a state-run hospital on Monday.

Tien said the ministry will also clarify the responsibility of people involved in the incident in the northern province of Hoa Binh.
