It's been 3 decades since Tam Giang lagoon was devastated, now with the efforts of local government and people, it has gradually revived, become one of the most well-known attractions.

Ru Cha (Huong Phong Commune, Huong Tra town, Thua Thien-Hue) is known as the only remaining pristine mangrove forest in Tam Giang - the largest mangroves lagoon in Southeast Asia. But during the 80s, this mangrove forest once faced the risk of being "wiped out".

Nguyen Loi, a senior in Thuan Hoa village, Huong Phong said, due to the lax management, followed with the lack of awareness in protecting mangrove forest, Ru Cha trees were being cut down mercilessly to get trees for firewood or lands for farming. It led to dangerous erosion, ecological imbalance...

Forestation applied in pristine mangrove forest Ru Cha - Tam Giang.

According to Huong Phong Commune People's Committee, after years of trying to protect the forest, Ru Cha forest now remains nearly 5ha with numerous 100-year-old trees. Local people call the forest as a wall to shield storms, flooding and the living environment for shrimp, fish, birds, storks, herons, cauldron ...

One of those models who contributed to the relive of mangrove forests are  Nguyen Ngoc Dap (72 years old, Thuan Hoa village, Huong Phong) and his wife. Realizing that forests without holder is like houses without owner, in 1988, he and his wife voluntarily built a temporary bamboo home within the lagoon area to stay and keep the forests, prevent those who intend to destroy these precious trees...

30 years have passed since the time Dap and his wife decided to share their life with, every single tree of mangrove forests Ru Cha. Understood the meaningful action of this couple, people in Huong Phong has followed and enhanced the awareness of forest protection, lead to the strong relive of Ru Cha.
