Southern Traditional Cake Festival to open in Can Tho

The eighth Southern Traditional Cake Festival themed "Southern Fragrance" is planned to take place in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho from April 12 to 16.
The eighth Southern Traditional Cake Festival themed "Southern Fragrance" is planned to take place in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho from April 12 to 14.
The event will feature 200 display booths of local businesses across the country and international enterprises of Japan, South Korea, India, Thailand, France, Malaysia, Indonesia and Cambodia.
The cake show will present to visitors more than 100 cakes and specialties, including traditional cakes of the Mekong Delta region; preserve and promote traditional cuisines and cultural activities of the Vietnam’s South. It is also a chance to promote tourism and cultural potentials of Can Tho city.
There will be a series of cultural activities, such as cake exhibition, folk cake making contest, calligraphy and don ca tai tu (Southern folk music) performances, traditional games and others.
Organizers have joined hands with tourist areas in Can Tho's Phong Dien District to coax visitors to take in the cultural attractions of the region. In future, it will expand to other southern provinces to create new tours.
It provides a chance to promote the land, people and cultural identity of the southern region, and introduce traditional cakes, contributing to preserving and upholding cuisine culture values, towards building a national trademark for the local cakes.
Last year, the Southern Folk Cake Festival attracted 500,000 Vietnamese and foreign visitors, and earned revenues of VND250 billion ($10.8 million).
