The project with a total investment of VND 35.700 billion is the third largest hydropower station ever built in the Black River, completed a year ahead of schedule.
The hydroelectric power station, with an annual generation capacity of some 4.7 billion kWh, is also expected to control flood during the rainy season as well as store and supply water during dry season for the Northern Delta of Vietnam, contributing to socio-economic development of the Northwestern region.
The hydropower station, which were designed and constructed by Vietnamese engineers and workers, marked considerable growth of the Vietnam power and machinery sectors.
The early completion of the project means an earlier supply of 4.7 billion kWh for the national electricity system, contributing to ensuring national energy security and promoting socio-economic development in Lai Chau province in particular and the national economy in general.
Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung stressed the importance of the energy sector in national development, asserting that the Party and State always pay special attention to developing the power sector. The power sector should make the first step to facilitate industrialization and modernization, as well as ensure national security and defense and energy security of Vietnam.
To date, the country’s generation capacity has totaled 40,000 MW, of which hydropower accounts for nearly 43%.
