Transport development requires broader-comprehensive mindset

Despite different needs of each province, transport development requires a broader and comprehensive mindset to bring about greater benefits.

This was the viewpoint stated by Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung at a recent meeting to discuss on the construction of a coastal road from Quang Ninh to Thanh Hoa.

The meeting was also attended by Minister of Transport, Minister of Construction, Provincial Party Secretaries and Chairmen of Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, Thai Binh, Nam Dinh, Ninh Binh and Thanh Hoa.

A coastal road is expected to give a boost to exploitation of potential in East of Viet Nam but it requires broader, comprehensive mindset and concerted efforts

The road is of significant importance as it will link six provinces and cities that are dynamic and have great development potential but they are disconnected, said Minster Dung.

Without this planned road, coastal potential, including Lach Huyen seaport and Cat Bi Airport and major tourist sites like Ha Long Bay and Do Son Beach, could not be exploited, he added.

However, the project has been carried out slowly as the direction and size of the road have not been decided due to different views and limited financial sources of the involved localities.

The participants considered the meeting as a historic event for the whole region and vowed to work closely to realize the project.

The Government approved the planning scheme to build a road along virtually the entire coast of the country in 2010 and okayed the first section from Quang Ninh to Thanh Hoa in June 2015.

As planned, the first section will be completed prior to 2020 with an aim to strengthen socio-economic connectivity and development in the region.

Infrastructure development, especially transport and urban infrastructure is one of the Government’s top priorities.
