Two COVID-19 patients in Hanoi and the northern province of Bac Ninh have died, according to the Treatment Subcommittee of the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control on June 14, raising the number of deaths caused by the virus to 61.

A severe COVID-19 patient receives treatment at the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases

The 60th patient is a 87-year-old resident of Bac Ninh City who had an extensive history of hypertension, heart failure, myocardial infarction, and parkinson's disease. The elderly lady had previously tested for COVID-19, with her results coming back positive on June 4.

The patient had initially been transferred to Bac Ninh General Hospital and was subsequently moved to the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases for treatment on June 7.

She eventually passed away on June 13 due to septic shock, hypertension, Parkinson's disease, and pneumonia caused by COVID-19.

The 61st COVID-19 death was a patient being treated for Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma at Hanoi's Tan Trieu Cancer K Hospital before being confirmed to be positive for COVID-19 on May 19.

She was then transferred to the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases and underwent endotracheal intubation on May 31.

Despite the best efforts of doctors, she died on June 13 with a diagnosis of septic shock, invasive fungal infections, Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, and pneumonia caused by SARS-CoV-2.
