The Long An Provincial People’s Committee on March 14 held a ceremony to inaugurate the newly-upgraded Van Phuoc communal house in My Le commune, Can Duoc district.

The ceremony saw the presence of former State President Truong Tan Sang; Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh; and Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Inspector General of the Government Inspectorate Le Minh Khai..

On this occasion, the Van Phuoc communal house was also recognized as a provincial-level historical and cultural heritage.

The place was built in 1877 to serve the religious needs and spiritual life of local people. It worships the village founders and two historical figures namely army chief Bui Quang Dieu and musical professor Nguyen Quang Dai.

The house is also a place for cultural activities, especially “don ca tai tu” (Southern amateur singing) - an intangible cultural heritage of humanity.

In 2020, a total cost of 5.1 billion VND was contributed by kind donors, local individuals and organizations to upgrade the Van Phuoc communal house.

Speaking at the ceremony, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh urged local authority and people to preserve the place to meet the people's needs and to preserve and promote patriotic traditions and values.

In the coming time, the local Party committee and authorities will continue to preserve and bring into full play the heritage’s values, thereby promoting traditional cultural values, and educating patriotism to young generations.
