Vietnam, Luxembourg sign new cooperation framework agreement

According to the Vietnamese Ministry of Planning and Investment, the development cooperation program between Luxembourg and Vietnam has been implemented since the first framework agreement on bilateral cooperation signed in 1995. Over the past more than two decades, Luxembourg has implemented its development assistance of EUR124 million through 3 cooperation programs in Vietnam between the two countries’ Governments.

The cooperation programs between the two sides gave priority for projects in Vietnam’s five-year socio-economic development plan, as well as for the country’s implementation of the millennium development goals (MDGs).

The strategic targets set out in the cooperation programs resulted from the dialogues between the two sides on the basis of experience and the priorities proposed by the two Governments.

The signing of the new framework agreement on cooperation between the two Governments demonstrates Luxembourg’s strong commitment to continuously supporting Vietnam in implementing  development goals, and at the same time contributes to strengthening and promoting the Vietnam-Luxembourg partnership and development cooperation.

At the signing ceremony, Minister for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Affairs of Luxembourg, Romain Schneider said that Luxembourg hopes to expand its relationship with Vietnam beyond the traditional relationship between the donor and the aid recipient, but toward establishing a bilateral partnership.
