Minister Long said the ministry has successfully negotiated and purchased sufficient COVID-19 vaccines for domestic use while speeding up domestic research and production of COVID vaccines.
It is now seeking other sources of COVID vaccines with the aim of getting 150 million doses in 2021 and inoculating up to 75% of its population.
Vietnam has so far carried out a number of COVID vaccinations, but this time will be the largest vaccination drive so the Ministry of Health requires other ministries and agencies to support and join hands with the health sector.
The Steering Committee for the COVID Vaccination Drive is headed by the Minister of Health but it is headquartered at the Ministry of National Defense and directly run by a Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army. The headquarters also includes representatives from the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Public Security, Ministry of Information and Communications, and Ministry of Transport.
