According to report, Vietnam has moved up 8 spots over the past year to be ranked 18th, in the league table for expat careers. Overall, the report said Vietnam’s appeal has expanded greatly in the last few years, and expats are setting their sights on the magnificent landscape, lively culture and positive work life balance.

The report notes that the appeal of Vietnam has expanded greatly in recent years and, in particular, serial expats are setting their sights on the magnificent landscape, lively culture and positive work-life balance.

Most expats moving to the country say they were able to quickly adjust to the way of life there, feeling at home within the first few months of arriving,” cited the report, putting this down to Vietnamese communities being welcoming and encouraging expats to get involved with their cultural events.

Respondents also highlighted the country’s low crime rate and its economic and political stability.

According to HSBC, expats are also pleasantly surprised by the benefits of working in Vietnam. Many receive salary increases which, given the relatively low cost of living, provides them with far more spending power to enjoy everything the country has to offer, states the report.

The 2019 Expat Explorer survey is a global survey completed by 18,059 expats across the world. The research was conducted online by YouGov between March 2019 and April 2019.

The survey breaks the findings into three sub-categories: living, career opportunity, and family life.

Canada tops the list in the first category, with respondents saying it’s a welcoming country, followed by Spain where expats praise its relaxed Mediterranean vibe. Switzerland scores high on career opportunity, thanks in part to quicker promotions, and Singapore tops the list for family life due to the availability of high-quality schools.
