Vietnam conifer recognised as national heritage

The Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment granted a certificate of the recognition at an event on November 28.

Among thousands of conifer trees in the centre, those recognised as heritage trees have a diameter of 4-5 metres, height of 50-70 metres and are about 100 years old. They were recognised for their scientific and economic value and their influence on the cultural and religious life of ethnic people in border areas.

At the certificate granting event, the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment asked Pu Hoat Nature Conservation Centre and relevant agencies to care for and protect the trees.

Lying in the western Nghe An Biosphere Reserves, Pu Hoat centre has thousands of rare and valuable animals and trees.

Vietnamese conifer trees are famous for their soft, durable scented wood and are a genus of one or two species of evergreen coniferous trees of the cypress family. They are native to northern Vietnam, China, Taiwan and Laos.
