Vietnam records 40 more locally transmitted COVID-19 cases

The Ministry of Health (MoH) , in its noon COVID-19 update on May 28, confirmed a further 40 coronavirus cases in six localities, including 36 cases in Bac Ninh and Bac Giang, the country’s two largest COVID-19 hotspots.

An extensive testing campaign is underway in Bac Giang to early detect positive cases in the community.

The MoH data show 23 more cases were recorded in Bac Giang and 13 in Bac Ninh,. All the new patients tested positive during their stay in quarantine and lockdown areas.

The ministry also announced one more case each in Hai Duong, Hung Yen, Ha Nam and Hanoi.

The same day, 43 COVID-19 patients were discharged from hospital following their full recovery from the disease.

Vietnam has logged 3,334 cases in more than 30 cities and provinces nationwide since the SARS-CoV-2 virus recurred in late April.

Bac Giang is the hardest hit locality, with more than 1,700 cases confirmed. The MoH is poolling all recourses, alongside additional assistance from other ministries and localities, in an effort to keep the outbreak in check.
