Vietnam records four more COVID-19 related deaths, 90 in total

Four more elderly patients have died of COVID-19 and other underlying illnesses in Vietnam, raising the total number of fatalities to 90, according to the Ministry of Health.

The four patients, including two in the Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap, are aged between 68 and 81, and they suffered from chronic diseases such as diabetes (type II), kidney and heart failure, hypertension, and cushing’s syndrome.

They tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus in June and died several days after being admitted to hospital for treatment.

Vietnam has recorded 55 COVID-19 deaths during the fresh outbreak that started in late April and 90 fatalities since the virus attacked the country in January 2020.

Meanwhile the fresh outbreak has spread to 55 cities and provinces across the country, with more than 17,000 cases confirmed.

Ho Chi Minh City, the busiest and most populous city in Vietnam, has emerged the largest coronavirus hotspot, recording more than 6,400 cases.
