Vietnam to strictly punish drink drivers.

At the event, competent forces reiterated their resolve to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of patrols and checks to handle “drink-driving” drivers, and to reduce traffic accidents caused by the alcohol abuse in 2018.

In 2016, the traffic police force nationwide handled more than 4.2 million cases of road  offences, in which 180,000 were related to alcohol abuses, and nearly 375,000 drivers had their licenses suspended.

In 2017, competent forces handled more than 4 million offences, and 159,000 drivers had their licenses withdrawn due to their violations of the alcohol limit.

Khuat Viet Hung, Deputy Chairman of the National Traffic Safety Committee, said that the Government has defined that prevention and control of “drink-driving” cases is a key task in ensuring traffic safety in the current period.

He urged the press and media to join hands in raising public awareness of the danger of ”drink driving”, and drastically condemning drinking drivers, particularly those who oppose the traffic police force.

Major General Tran Son Ha said that abuses of alcohol and drugs before and during driving are potential causes of traffic accidents. "The evidence shows that after long holidays, hospitals are often overloaded by traffic accident patients,” said Major General Tran Son Ha.
