The agreement, based on the ninth joint statement on cooperation and development between Vietnamese and Cambodian border provinces approved by the two governments on March 15, 2017, aims to promote potential and strengths of the two provinces and consolidate their comprehensive cooperation.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Tan said that the old agreement, inked on September 17, 2012, was proved effective, thus helping boost socio-economic development in the two provinces, and build a borderline of peace, friendship, cooperation and development.

Under the newly-signed pact, Tay Ninh and Kampongcham will intensify relations in all fields. Specifically, they will continue encouraging and creating favourable conditions for their enterprises, holding trade fairs and expos and regularly sharing information to address arising matters.

In the agro-fishery-forestry field, the provinces will strengthen cooperation in human resources training and in the protection of wild animals and forests,  actively share information on diseases to prevent the spread of diseases in plants and animals, and exert efforts to stop the illegal transportation, trading and processing of forestry and aquatic products, and endangered animals.

Tay Ninh and Kampongcham will also coordinate in preventing the trading of counterfeit and low-quality goods, particularly food and foodstuff and medicines, in stopping plots to disturb and harm social order and security in the two localities, and in searching for and repatriating remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers who died during war in Kampongcham.
