The case has been considered as the first rare accident in Vietnam and the 31st in the world.
The accident happened to N.M.H. (13), living in Binh Phuoc province two months ago when he lay on his front against a pillow and felt hurt as if something penetrating into his chest, he said.

He spotted a needle sticking into his chest and tried to pull the needle out. But the needle broke off, and part of it was still stuck in his chest. He thought that the problem was not so serious and decided not to tell his parents.
Until recently, he often felt stabbing pain in his chest, had difficulty in breathing and often fainted. He then told his parents about the incident two months ago. His parents immediately took him to Children's Hospital 1 for examination.
Dr. Dao Trung Hieu, Deputy Director of Children's Hospital 1 said that test and imaging diagnosis results showed that the boy had pericardial effusion.
The doctors then conducted a surgery and found a 2cm-long-needle segment in the boy's left heart part.
The operation was successful and the boy has recovered and is able to walk normally.
