Vietnamese helicopter went down in Vung Tau, 3 missing

VUNGTAU - A pilot and 2 student pilot went missing when a helicopter supposedly crashed during an exercise on October 18.

The Euro-made Eurocopter MC130 helicopter is believed to have crashed in Vung Tau at around 8.30am and all those on board are still missing as authorities still can’t access the location of the incident, said Nguyen Nhat, deputy minister of Transport of Vietnam, answering VnExpress this morning.

The helicopter may have crashed at Dinh Mountain, Tan Thanh District, about 80 kilometers from Ho Chi Minh City, he informed.

A search and rescue mission is under way for the pilot and his 2 student, all those missing are serving in Army Corps 18 under the Air Defence and Air Force Service.

The Eurocopter EC130 is a single engine light helicopter originally launched and produced by the Eurocopter Group, now Airbus Helicopters.

The EC130 can carry up to 7 passengers, thanks to the features of large windows, spacious cabin, quietness and high-tech comfort, EC130 has been utilized worldwide for tourism like the US and Europe.

The model has various safety features, including flight data recorders and crash-worthy seats.
