Vietnamese rush to buy gold on the God of Wealth day

Dozens of Vietnameses queued at shops selling gold on the God of Wealth day, which falls on the 10th day of the Lunar New Year (February 14), patiently waiting for their turn to enter and buy the precious metal.
Legend has it that the God of Wealth returns to heaven on the 10th day of the new year, so Vietnamese have a tradition of buying gold for luck and prosperity throughout the year.

Big gold shops in Hanoi like Bao Tin Minh Chau, Phu Quy or Doji have been crowded since very early morning when lots of people queued up from 5 am.
Each customer is given with a piece of paper to write their personal information as well as the amount of gold they want to buy.
On this day, people often go to gold shops and buy gold bullion, bars or sheets, gold jewelry, or figurines of the 12 zodiac animals with the strong belief that doing so will bring them prosperity and good luck for the whole year.
Many people said that they do not involve in any business activities but also queued to buy gold for ‘luck’, they often buy a small amount of gold. Many gold shops hold lion and dragon dances or cakes to attract customers.
People queue in front of major gold shops on Tran Nhan Tong Street, dubbed the biggest gold streets in Hanoi. To meet the increased demand for gold, many gold companies across the country have prepared a variety of products in different shapes and sizes.
