World Wide Fund for Nature urged Vietnam to reduce rhino horn consumption

The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) has called Vietnam for aggressive actions in preventing illegal trade of rhino horns. In case such illegal trade continues developing, Vietnam will have to face the sanctions.
This message was issued ahead of World Wildlife conference which will be held in South Africa next week. With the participation of 181 countries, the meeting will be the largest and the most powerful so far. According to WWF, Vietnam and China are the world’s largest markets for illegal trade of rhino horn.
Despite many efforts, Vietnam still not able to disrupt the trafficking networks and prosecute the traffickers. WWF stated that Vietnam should enact new regulations, considering the wildlife crime as a ‘serious crime’ with a minimum sentence of four years in prison, arrest and prosecute illegal traders and traffickers.
Otherwise, the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) must call on countries to prohibit trade with Vietnam in all CITES-regulated wildlife.
