Serious patients will be operated on at the Saint Paul Hospital. The surgical costs will mainly be covered by the health insurance companies, but additional treatment costs beyond the medical cover will be paid by the Children Action Foundation.
On the first day, about 100 children nationwide were examined by doctors from the Children Action Foundation. The foreign doctors also consulted their colleagues at Saint Paul Hospital about appropriate therapies.
Speaking to the PSNews, Doctor Jérôme Sales de Gauzy, head of the visiting delegation of the Children Action said that the foundation has been operating for 20 years in Vietnam, and has helped thousands of children with their deformities. However, this was the first time such a humanitarian program had been held in Hanoi.
The program will be continued if it proves to be effective.
According to a two-year agreement between Hanoi’s Saint Paul Hospital and the Children Action Foundation, 2-3 delegations of top experts in orthopedics from France, Switzerland and Spain will visit Vietnam each year to join hands with Vietnamese doctor in providing health checkups and treatment for children with congenital malformations.
