United Nations to honor a Vietnamese farmer

The United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization in Vietnam stated that the regional office of FAO for Asia – Pacific will grant award for a Vietnamese farmer for her outstanding achievements regarding agricultural production in the context of increasing climate change. 

As a part of activities celebrating the annual World Food Day, Ms. Pham Thi Huan from Long An province and other farmers from Fiji, Mongolia, Pakistan and Thailand will be honored as “Model Farmer”.

The prizes will be awarded on October 17th, aiming to recognize the outstanding achievements of farmers related to the theme “Climate is changing, food and agriculture must too”. 

Such theme of World Food Day 2016 highlights the need of adaptability of food and agriculture to climate change to feed a growing global population in a sustainable way.

Farmer Huan has supporting other Mekong Delta’s families in shifting from crop production into egg distribution by raising ducks due to climate change impacts.

She has created jobs for many female farmers and enhanced their status in respective communities.
