It was the second biggest shrimp producer in Viet Nam with an annual output of around 105,000 tons and 500 million USD of export turnover.

In addition, Bac Lieu serves as the center of bloodstocks for the whole region and country.

However, the local economy only expanded 5.09% in the first half and is heavily depending on agricultural production which had been badly affected by climate change.

At the meeting, the local authorities of Bac Lieu suggested that the PM permit the establishment of a high-tech agricultural zone in favor of shrimp cultivation. The modal is expected to raise the local shrimp output by ten folds from 10-15 tons to 100-150 tons per hectare.

Addressing the event, PM Phuc praised the locality for figuring out ways to get out of difficulties amidst climate change impacts.

The Government leader noted the importance of building a good trademark for Vietnamese shrimps while protecting the environment sustainably.
