Deputy PM Minh attends NAM Summit in Venezuela

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh has arrived in Margarita, Venezuela to attend the 17th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit scheduled to open on September 17 (local time).
He was welcomed by Venezuela’s first Vice President Aristóbulo Istúriz at the airport. 

Deputy PM Minh is scheduled to deliver a speech at the event. 

Earlier, on September 15-16, Deputy Foreign Minister Ha Kim Ngoc participated in the NAM Ministerial Meeting, which aimed to prepare for the summit. 

The Non-Aligned Movement is the second largest international organization in the world, after the United Nations (UN). It currently has 120 member states, 17 observer countries, and 10 observer organisations.

According to the organising board, the 17 th summit has to date seen the presence of 128 delegations from 108 official member countries, six observer countries, eight international orgnisations and six honourary guests.

With the theme "Peace, Sovereignty and Solidarity for Development", the 17th NAM Summit opens a forum for discussion of measures to enhance the role of NAM, strengthen solidarity and views coordination among member countries regarding various important issues, such as international security, disarmament, reform of the international system, cooperation for development, and implementation of sustainable development goals.

Vietnam's participation in and contribution to NAM in general, and its summits in particular, are internationally recognized and highly appreciated, especially in strengthening solidarity, highlighting the role of NAM, positively contributing to the common issues, consulting  and coordinating with other member countries to make specific recommendations.

The Viet Nam delegation attends the 17th NAM Summit in order to implement the foreign policy of the 12th Communisst Party Congress, especially on diversification and multilateralization of international relations; proactive and actively engage in international integration; showing Viet Nam is a friend and reliable partner of all countries in the international community
