Deputy PM Truong Hoa Binh urges HCMC’s authorities to take care of fire victims

PSNews – Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh on March 25 had a working session at the Carina Plaza apartment complex in District 8 where a fire incident occurred last week, causing 13 dead and more than 100 wounded.

Lieutenant General Bui Van Thanh, Deputy Minister of Public Security, Chairman of the HCM Municipal People Committee and representatives from the city’s authorities and police units also attended at the meeting.

According to the city’s authorities, the fire at the Carina Plaza in District 8 in HCM City killed 13 people and seriously injured at least 50 others. Carina Plaza is a high-end apartment complex including three buildings with 15-21 storeys and 736 apartments. It was put into use six years ago.

Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh toured around scene and learnt the situation. He then ordered the authorities of HCM City to take good care of victims of the fire incident. He also expressed concerns over the city’s fire prevention measures as another fire broke out at an eight-storey hotel in District 5 a day later, on Saturday.

He then visited 70 residents that are taking temporary shelter at the City Gate apartment complex, opposite Carina Plaza, and ordered the complex’s management board to ensure their needs are met.

“Management authorities must soon review all housing conditions and fire safety measures at [the Carina Plaza complex] before allowing residents to move back in,” he said.

According to VNA, later during the day, the Deputy PM visited 11 injured victims that are receiving treatment atCho Ray Hospital, including the firefighter Trần Tuấn Thanh who was severely burned in the hands and legs while doing his duty.

On behalf of the Government, he presented each victim VND3 million (US$132) of financial support. The Deputy PM also visited and offered condolences to families of the victims killed by the fire.
