First event of SOM 1 APEC opens
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, IPEG 44 will be hosted by the Vietnamese Intellectual Property Department on February 18th and 19th. There are 106 delegates from the 21 APEC member economies participating in the event. The Vietnamese delegation includes 6 members led by Le Ngoc Lam, Deputy Director of the Intellectual Property Department.
The meeting will discuss several contents such as: strengthening dialogues on intellectual property and taking measures to increase the effectiveness of the intellectual property protection system; implementing the World Trade Organization’s Agreement on trade-related aspects of intellectual property rights (TRIPS of WTO); effectively deploying the collective action plan (CAP) on intellectual property in order to achieve the Bogol Goals of APEC on trade and investment liberalization by 2020.
The discussion may includes other themes: developing human resources on intellectual property for developing and underdeveloped economies; increasing communication and information activities to raise public awareness of intellectual property; and encouraging the application and commercialization of intellectual property rights.
The Vietnamese delegation is expect to present 2 reports about procedures for international trademark registration under the Madrid system of the Intellectual Property Department, and innovation activities of Vietnam
On the sidelines of IPEG 44, the Vietnamese delegation will have bilateral meetings with other delegations, such as South Korea and the US, for further discussion about bilateral cooperation plans on intellectual property in the future.
