Former UNESCO General Director: Impression of Vietnam's rapid growth

Hanoi - Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung received Former UNESCO General Director Matsuura Koichiro who is in a working visit to Vietnam on September 16th at the Government headquarter.

Speaking at the reception, Mr Dung appreciated the important contributions of Mr. Matsuura in accelerating and developing the cooperation partnership between Vietnam and UNESCO.

In his capacity as UNESCO General Director, Mr. Matsuura has signed and promoted the implementation of the memorandum of understanding on cooperation between Vietnam and UNESCO period 2005-2010, aiming to help Vietnam improve the educational quality and cultural heritage preservation.

He also supported many proposals of Vietnam to UNESCO in recognizing Hoi An ancient town, the Citadel of Ho Dynasty, the Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park and the cultural space of gongs in the Central Highlands as the world’s cultural heritages. 

In addition, Mr. Matsuura was impressed by the development of cooperation between Vietnam and UNESCO as well as the country’s rapid growth in the recent years. He will surely encourage Japanese investors to run business in Vietnam.
