French Communist Party attaches importance to ties with Vietnam

The French Communist Party (PCF) pays much attention to initiatives to develop its relations with the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), including the organisation of regular visits and meetings, said Denis Rondepierre, Politburo member and standing member of the Secretariat of the PCF.

Rondepierre made the statement while granting an interview to the Vietnam News Agency on the occasion of General Secretary of the CPV Central Committee Nguyen Phu Trong’s official visit to France from March 25-27.

He recalled PCF National Secretary Pierre Laurent’s Vietnam visit in 2015 during which he held talks with Party General Secretary Trong.

The two leaders are scheduled to meet and exchange views on a number of issues during Trong’s visit to France this time.

He also informed that he and other PCF members will pay a working visit to Vietnam in late April to discuss political issues and make preparations for the third thematic symposium between the two parties slated for the first half of 2019 in Paris.

Rondepierre affirmed that PCF welcomes the Vietnamese Party leader’s visit to France on the occasion of the 5th anniversary of the France-Vietnam strategic partnership, which is expected to boost bilateral cooperation in culture, education, training, economics, defence, security and ensuring peace in the region.

Trong is paying an official visit to France from March 25-27, during which he expected to hold talks and meet with French leaders, representatives from the Movement of the Enterprises of France (MEDEF) – the largest employer federation in France as well as young intellectuals and Vietnamese expatriates.

Particularly, the Party leader will witness the signing of a series of importation cooperation agreements between Vietnam and France.

Vietnam and France set up diplomatic ties on April 12, 1973. Overcoming ups and downs in history, over the past 45 years, especially since the establishment of the strategic partnership in 2013, Vietnam-France relations have developed well.

France is an important European partner of Vietnam. It also respects Vietnam’s stature and contributions to peace, stability and development in the region and the world. Vietnam’s membership of the ASEAN Economic Community and many free trade agreements, including the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), expected to take effect in the near future, will bring new cooperation chances for both countries.
