Government leader meets WEF Managing Director

On January 18, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc met with the World Economic Forum (WEF) Managing Director Philipp Roesler and representatives of WEF member groups on the sidelines of the 47th annual meeting of the WEF in Davos, Switzerland.

PM Phuc said he is interested in the 12 pillars of global competitiveness that the WEF is using to evaluate the competitiveness of nations around the world. He expressed his pleasure in welcoming to Vietnam the groups of experts who compile the WEF’s global competitiveness report.

“We think institutional issues is very important among the 12 pillars of the global competitiveness. Thus the Vietnamese government is gathering all resources to deal with it in line with international practice and market economy rules, especially in finance and banking, intellectual property, environmental protection, and settlement of disputes,” said 

“The institutional foundation should ensure that all people will have opportunities to contribute to the success of the national economic growth and get appropriate benefits from it," he added.

The Vietnamese government leader reiterated the country's determination to continue improving the national investment and business environment and competitiveness to the levels of the four leading ASEAN members.

Philipp Roesler appreciated the signing between Vietnam and the World Economic Forum of a cooperative agreement on the future development of Vietnam’s economy.

The World Economic Forum will support Vietnam’s development to enter the era of the fourth industrial revolution, he told Phuc.
