Israeli President pays official visit to Vietnam

PSNews-President of Israel Reuven Ruvi Rivlin and his spouse have paid a state-level visit to Vietnam from March 19 to 25 at the invitation of Vietnam’s State President Tran Dai Quang.

In the morning of March 20, the red-carpet reception of Israeli President Reuven Ruvi Rivlin and his spouse was held at the Presidential Palace. After the reception, State President Tran Dai Quang held talks with the Israeli President.

The state-level visit by the Israeli President took place at a time when bilateral relations have seen fruitful results; two-way trade between the two nations increased from $68 million in 2005 to $1 billion in 2014 and $1.237 billion in 2016. Vietnam mainly exports to Israel mobile phones and spare parts, garment, coffee, cashew nuts and seafood.

Under the schedule, the Israeli President will meet with top leaders of Vietnam and attend the opening sessions of two business forums of the two countries in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

The Israeli President will visit Ha Long Bay and some of the typical cooperation projects between the two countries on agriculture and education with Israel’s technical support.

Representatives of some 30 leading Israeli companies in technology, agriculture, finance and insurance accompany the visiting president.

Vietnam and Israel have various opportunities and potentials for cooperation and development in different areas, including science, agriculture, clean water, cyber security and national defense.

The two nations are negotiating a bilateral free trade agreement (VIFTA).

Since the signing of the bilateral Agricultural Cooperation Agreement in 1997, Israel has supported Vietnam in developing various projects aiming to transfer advanced technologies in animal husbandry, crop production and irrigation, particularly experimental centers in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, investment projects on livestock development, research projects on production of fruit trees, water saving and cultivation in greenhouses in many Vietnamese localities.
