General To Lam, Minister of Public Security on October 30 made a phone call to Ms. Priti Patel, Home Secretary of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (the U.K.).

During the talk, the two officials were committed to promoting coordination between the two ministries in identifying the victims suspected of Vietnamese nationality among the 39 people found dead in a lorry container on October 23 in the U.K.
On behalf of the Vietnamese Government and Vietnamese people, Minister To Lam expressed profound regret and raised great concern over the incident in Essex county, U.K. According to the Vietnamese Minister, the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam directed relevant police units and agencies at all levels to quickly verify the missing recently reported, collect information and stand ready to join hands with the U.K. side at request.
Minister To Lam thanked the secretary for her goodwill in cooperating and sharing information about the incident with the Vietnamese side. He also affirmed that the Vietnamese MPS is ready to send working teams to the UK to join hands with the local police in verifying identities of the victims.
The Vietnamese Minister asked the UK side to facilitate the citizen protection in the case Vietnamese citizens were found among the victims in line with the laws of the UK and Vietnam, as well as international law and practices. He also hoped that the UK authorities will take measures to stabilize security and safety of the Vietnamese citizens studying and working in the UK, and that the two sides will boost the effectiveness and efficiency of the bilateral cooperation in the fields of mutual concern.
