Ministry of Foreign Affairs verifies information about kidnapped Vietnamese sailor
PSNews-On August 21, an official of the Bureau of Consular Affairs under Vietnam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it had received the information that sailor Do Trung Hieu had been rescued by the Philippines.
A representative of the Bureau of Consular Affairs said: “We immediately contacted the authorities of the Philippines to verify the information and instructed the Vietnamese Embassy in Manila to prepare necessary measures to receive the crew member Do Trung Hieu and bring him back to his family.”
Do Trung Hieu and five other crew members on board of the M / V Royal 16 were abducted by local pirates last year.
Reportedly, cargo ship Royal 16 was attacked on November 11, 2016, when it was about 10 nautical miles west of Basilan Island, the Philippines. At the time of the incident, 19 crewmembers were on board.
After attacking the ship, the pirates arrested six people as hostages, including captain Pham Minh Tuan; three mates namely Do Trung Hieu, Hoang Vo, Tran Khuong Dung; and two sailors Hoang Van Hai and Hoang Trung Thong.
