National Election Council makes debut in Hanoi

The 21-member National Election Council with National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan elected the president made its debut at the ongoing plenary session of the National Assembly in Hanoi on June 12.

The council has four vice presidents, namely Politburo member and National Assembly Vice Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong, Politburo member and Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh, Party Central Committee Secretary and Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee President Tran Thanh Man, and Party Central Committee Secretary and Vice Staet President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh.

Other members of the council include the three vice chairmen of the National Assembly, and the heads of the Ministry of National Defence, the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Information and Communications, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour, the Vietnam Youth Union, the Vietnam War Veterans Association, and the Vietnam Women’s Union among others.

All 449 deputies attending the June 12 session voted in favour the membership list of the council on request by its president Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan.

On behalf of the council, president Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan thanked the National Assembly for their vote and said the council will do its utmost to fulfil tasks prescribed by the Constitution and the law.

Next year Vietnam will elect deputies to the 15th National Assembly and local People’s Councils in the 2021-2026 tenure.
