Overseas Vietnamese Conference 2016 opens in HCM City

The Overseas Vietnamese Conference 2016 (November 11-14) has gotten underway in Ho Chi Minh City.

In a keynote address launching the Conference, Deputy PM Pham Binh Minh affirmed that the Party and State always consider Overseas Vietnamese an indispensable part of the nation.

Nguyen Thanh Phong, chair of HCM City People’s Committee, in turn spoke about the City’s socio-economic development and thanked Overseas Vietnamese for their invaluable contributions to its development.

With the theme – Overseas Vietnamese Join Hands to Build Ho Chi Minh City to Develop Rapidly, Sustainably and with International Integration – the conference has gathered more than 500 participants from 36 countries around the globe.

At the event participants are encouraged to comment and make suggestions for the City about matters pertaining to construction, sustainable development and international integration.

Mr Nguyen Van Dung, a representative of the Vietnamese Businessmen Association in the US, said many Vietnamese businesspersons and intellectuals from the US are attending this important conference.

During the conference, he said, the participants will participate in four thematic discussions, including: issues of sustainable development; human resources development; science - technology development, knowledge-based economy; and investment and development of trade and services.

Particularly, on November 12, a program – Prime Minister Meets Outstanding Overseas Vietnamese Experts, Intellectuals and Businesspersons – will take place.
