PM Phuc hails Japan’s investment promotion in Vietnam

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc spoke of his appreciation for the Vietnam visit by Chairman and CEO of the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO) Hiroyuki Ishige with the aim of promoting Japanese businesses’ investment in the Southeast Asian nation.

At a reception for the JETRO leader in Hanoi on July 19, the PM thanked JETRO for its successful organization of the Vietnam Investment Promotion Conference on the occasion of his official visit to Japan in June. The largest- ever conference saw the attendance of more than 1,600 delegates, and the two countries’ Prime Ministers in particular.

On behalf of the Vietnamese Government, PM Phuc extended sympathy to the Japanese people over huge losses caused by the recent floods. He noted that the two countries have enjoyed an extensive strategic partnership, and actively promoted the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).

The PM highly appreciated JETRO's activities in Vietnam, which have positively contributed to boosting trade and investment and expressed his belief that the visit by the JETRO leader will open up a new chapter for stronger trade and investment relations between the two countries.

International organizations praised Vietnam’s efforts in improving the business investment environment as shown by the ever-growing indicators in this regard, which is one of the key tasks of the Government of Vietnam, he told his guest.

The Vietnamese government leader said Vietnam is stabilizing the macro economy, fine-tuning legal institutions, upgrading infrastructure, and developing human resources as well as streamlining administrative procedures in taxation, customs, construction, land management and social insurance.

He said he hopes that Japan will take the lead in FDI investment in Vietnam, and that Japanese enterprises will invest in the country’s infrastructure, clean energy, processing industry, electronics, manufacturing, support industry, technologies, aviation, and logistics.

PM Phuc noted with satisfaction the surveys, in which most Japanese businesses have showed a desire to expand their business in Vietnam and given a positive assessment of the investment environment in the country.

He affirmed that the Government of Vietnam will make every effort to create favorable conditions for Japanese businesses to invest successfully in Vietnam.

For his part, Ishige noted that the many deals secured at the June conference including key projects in energy, trade, and industrial production are effectively being carried out in Vietnam.

Regarding the strong Japanese capital flow into Vietnam, he said his organization is exerting greater efforts to support the investments.

He said skilled Vietnamese employees are in high demand for Japanese businesses and JETRO is working with Vietnamese universities to help Japanese firms recruit highly skilled Vietnamese workers.

He stressed that improvements to the business climate are the key to attracting more Japanese investors to Vietnam.

Hiroyuki Ishige stated that Vietnam and Japan would take the leading role in implementing the CPTPP and the pact will be realized soon and also urged the Vietnamese Government to further improve the business environment as Japanese enterprises are particularly interested in the Vietnamese market.
