Party leader greets Myanmar President

Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has underscored the importance of the state visit to Vietnam by Myanmar President Htin Kyaw as it takes place at a time when the two countries have their new leadership.

At a reception in Hanoi on October 26,  Trong reiterated Vietnam’s unswerving policy of treasuring the friendship and multifaceted cooperation with Myanmar. 

He said both countries share similarities in the struggles for national liberation and in implementing economic policies which are the foundation to further bilateral ties. 

The Party chief called for increased cooperation in trade and investment, cooperation between localities, and people-to-people exchanges.

The Myanmar President expressed his pleasure at his first visit to Vietnam and participation in the 3 Mekong summits. 

He briefed the host on the outcomes of his talks with President Tran Dai Quang and the meeting with Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, while affirming that he will work to develop the time-honoured friendship between the two countries. 

President Htin Kyaw also promised to expand trade-investment ties between Myanmar and Vietnam for mutual benefits, create the best possible conditions for business operations, intensify people-to-people exchange and coordinate closely with Vietnam in the ASEAN.

He congratulated Vietnam on its renewal achievements after 30 years of pursuing the Doi Moi (Renewal) process and pledged to deepen the traditional relations between the two countries and to work closely with Vietnam at regional and international forums.
