Senior leaders extend lunar New Year wishes

On January 25, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong hosted a get-together and extended New Year wishes to all veteran revolutionaries, leaders and former leaders of the Party, State, the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF)

Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong highlighted the country’s noticeable events in 2016, the first year of the implementation of the 12th National Party Congress’s Resolution, such as the successful organization of the National Party Congress, and the elections of deputies to the 14th National Assembly and to the People’s Councils at all levels for the 2016 - 2021 tenure.

He emphasized outstanding economic achievements recorded in the past year, including maintaining macro-economic stability, curbing inflation and an economic growth rate of 6.21%. Currency reserves reached a record high US$41 billion while the disbursement of foreign direct investment reached US$15.8 billion. The number of international tourists hit record of 10 million and the volume of local tourists was 62 million.

The Party leader praised encouraging results were also recorded in external activities and international integration, helping improve the country’s prestige and position on the international arena: 

“We should make great efforts in completing assigned tasks this year to move Vietnam forwards on all sectors from the economy, international integration to culture, education, science-technology and the environment. Macro economy should be stabilized and business production must be facilitated. Strategic breakthroughs and economic restructuring should aim to enhance competitiveness and productivity for better growth than 2016," Trong said.

The same day, National Assembly (NA) Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan congratulated the leaders and staff of the National Assembly agencies a happy Tet. 

“We pledge that the National Assembly and its agencies will unite in thought and action to fulfill tasks assigned by the Party, State, and people. The National Assembly will gain more success in the new year," the top legislator stressed.
