Solemn ceremony marks 70th Wounded and Fallen Soldiers’ Day

PSNews - The Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the National Assembly, the State President, the Government, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee and the capital of Hanoi held a solemn ceremony to mark the 70th Wounded and Fallen Soldiers’ Day on July 27.

Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong; former Party General Secretaries Le Kha Phieu and Nong Duc Manh; Former State Presidents Tran Duc Luong and Truong Tan Sang; Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc; National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan’ former National Assembly Chairmen Nguyen Van An and Nguyen Sinh Hung; Hanoi municipal Party Committee’s Secretary Hoang Trung Hai; Deputy State President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh and President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Tran Thanh Man attended the event.

The event also saw the participation of members and former members of the Politburo and the Secretariat of the Party Central Committee.

Addressing the ceremony, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong expressed his deepest gratitude towards the sacrifices of national contributors, Vietnamese heroic mothers, heroes of the People's Armed Forces, Labor heroes, wounded soldiers, and families of martyrs.

The Party chief underlined the tradition of “When drinking water, remember its source” of the Vietnamese people and recalled late President Ho Chi Minh’s care for wounded soldiers and martyrs’ families.

According to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, in the struggles for national independence and freedom and the bright future of the nation, for peaceful life of all Vietnamese people, millions of elite children of the Motherland sacrificed themselves.

The event saw the participations of members and former members of the Politburo and the Secretariat of the Party Central Committee.

“The sacrifices of heroic martyrs have beautified the glorious revolutionary flag of the nation”, said the Party General Secretary.

He added that the Party, State and people have always attached special attention to implementing preferential policies for national contributors. 

Over the past 70 years, especially during 30 years of reform, the Party and State have paid heed to the work by issuing a range of guidelines, policies and laws. More than 9 million revolutionary contributors have benefited from preferential policies, while over 4 million contributors were presented with orders, medals and other noble titles, he emphasized. 

Many national contributors, Vietnamese heroic mothers, heroes of the People's Armed Forces, Labor heroes, wounded soldiers, and families of martyrs attends the event.

From 2007-2016, over 182,000 houses of gratitude were built and upgraded, and more than 133,000 savings books were granted to families of revolutionary contributors, Party General Secretary Trong noted, stressing that, caring and improving the material and spiritual lives of war invalids, families of martyrs and revolutionary contributors are the consistent guideline of our Party and State, and the tradition of our nation.

In that spirit, the Party General Secretary urged Party Committees, administrations, Vietnam Fatherland Front at all levels and social organisations to continue popularising the Party’s and State’s relevant guidelines and policies on war invalids, martyrs’ families and revolutionary contributors among officials, Party members and the people. 

“The awareness should be turned into practical and concrete actions, thus helping to well perform preferential policies on revolutionary contributors,” he said.
